I received a request from a friend to get the word out for a Tri-Cities hospice nurse who works for the local chaplaincy. Her name is Anna Curiel, she is 26, and is going through her third battle with Leukemia -- that is not where the story begins...Leukemia has been a part of Anna's life since it claimed her mother when Anna was 12. Her younger brother was diagnosed with the disease when he was 5, and finally Anna at the age of 14.

Since then Anna has fought Leukemia twice and won. However just a few months ago during a routine screening, Anna learned the Leukemia had returned and this time it was the same type that claimed her mother's life.

Anna has had to leave her job at the chaplaincy and her husband's insurance isn't enough to cover all of the medical bills.

If you are so moved here are a few ways you can help:

  1. Attend a free Piano Recital & Dessert Buffet Sat. Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian church located at 2001 Kennewick Ave. where you can make a donation or bid on silent auction items.
  2. Make a donation at HAPO Credit Union "Friends of Anna Curiel"
  3. Drop Anna a note or words of encouragement on www.facebook.com/friendsofanna.

Thanks for reading!
