Kadlec is suing the Washington Department of Health for not allowing an expansion it promised. When a partial expansion was granted in 2012 Trios was denied. Now Trios says it, not Kadlec, should be given new allotments.

The Dept. of Health has to approve the number of beds each hospital maintains. Trios and Kadlec both say the Tri-Cities is growing so fast they both need more. But if only one gets more, Trios says it deserves it at the Auburn campus (old building) because Kadlec was given more in 2012. Kadlec says it was only given half of what was promised.

The real question is does each hospital need to be so big?

If Kadlec and Trios compete, are we all winners? It's possible they push Pasco's Lourde's out of business, robbing that community of a hospital. And Trios was having trouble paying its own bills earlier this year. Kadlec built upon its tower this year making it now the tallest building in Richland (overtaking the 50-year-old federal building).

If their race to be biggest and best lowers prices for us, it sounds good, but it could cause a mess. What do YOU think should happen.
