Washington has the fourth-most amount of volcanoes in the United States.

Here's something I found out today. Alaska has 141 "potentially" active volcanoes, by far the most in the United States. Oregon is the third-most volcanic state with 17.

Washington has five active volcanoes.

Say that one back to yourself. "I live in a state with five active volcanoes." These active volcanoes are Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, Glacier Peak, Mt. Adams, and of course, Mt. St. Helens.

The Cascade Mountains aren't talked about nearly as much as say, the Rocky Mountains or even the Appalachian Mountains, but they could be more interesting than both ranges. They make the long drives across the state more fun and certainly fill the skyline with beauty. But how can you truly appreciate them? You gotta get closer.

Where is a good place that you can camp and visit the various parks around the Cascade Mountains?

I've been planning this big summer trip with my family. I want to see the mountains. I want to smell the mountain air. My mom has been helping my wife and me plan a wonderful trip so I wanted to share what I know with you.

If you have an RV, you can book various spots all over Washington. This spot on Boondockers Welcome is within 35 minutes of Mt. Rainier National Park, and less than two hours away from Mt. St. Helens. If you want to see all the volcanoes in one weekend, this route is a good one.

What is Boondockers Welcome?

Boondockers Welcome lets people camp out on other folks' property. You pay an annual membership fee and then your stays are free. That sounds kind of crazy but it really is that simple. This particular spot is pet-friendly, kid-friendly, and has a resident deer. I don't know about you, but my summer is going to be great!
