What’s Up With This ‘Abandoned’ Kennewick Property? Anything?
With all the development and growth in the Tri-Cities, we wonder if anything will ever happen to this lot. It's at 5705 West Clearwater Ave. at least that is based upon the address of the last business there. Many of you drive by here every day.
WESTERN HERITAGE HOMES-FLEETWOOD LOT VACANT FOR YEARS
We remember years ago, this lot once held a variety of manufactured homes on display and for sale.
But for years now, it's been overgrown with weeds, all that's left are the concrete walkways that led to the model homes. So we did some looking to find out who owns it.
All that's left is the concrete 'patio' area that was part of the main office (which was a manufactured home) and the cement walkway that led out into the lot where the homes were on display. The light posts which were used in the evening are still there.
There's an electrical panel with meters on it still on the lot. But nothing else and the parking lot is padlocked.
We're familiar with it because back in 1999 our family was looking at what were then 'red hot' manufactured homes. We ended up buying a Palm Harbor and still own it to this day. Solid home! But in our search, we did look at some homes at this Clearwater lot. You may remember 15-20 years ago, manufactured homes were in hot demand.
VERY FEW RECORDS ON THIS PROPERTY
Using a parcel number and street address we could not find the 'official' Benton County property records for the address, which was listed as 5705 West Clearwater. At least that's what it was when it was Western Heritage Homes by Fleetwood.
What we did find out was a company called CAVCO Industries purchased Fleetwood in 2013 after the manufactured housing company went bankrupt in 2009. There are some Fleetwood Dealers listed on a Fleetwood site but a call to the closest, Oregon Trail Homes in Hermiston, led to an answering machine. There's also a lot called Quail Run MHP in Grandview.
Some additional searches did not turn up any additional information as to who still owns the lot, what its status is, and if any development is ever planned. Usually, when a business that large closes up the lot and/or buildings are quickly gobbled up and repurposed.
A lot also depends upon how it's zoned as well.
We're going to keep looking, and when we find out we will let you know. Curious situation.
