When is WORST Time to Travel Labor Day Weekend?
According to studies done by a leading infrastructure, travel and transportation monitoring company, there are some surprising facts about Labor Day Travel.
In a story in USA Today, INRIX-a global mobility analytics company-has crunched tons of traffic data, and came up with this information:
- The WORST time to be driving for Labor Day is Thursday, especially between the hours of 4-6 PM. Much of this does apply to larger metro areas, but in general a LOT of folks bug out early, and Thursday is not good.
- If you're leaving early, Wednesday (today) is a good idea.
- Surprisingly, Saturday and Sunday are projected to be relatively "light" traffic days especially on highways. They will still be busy with Labor Day movement, but compared to Thursday, light.
- Also, if you can, avoid driving Friday 1-4 pm, and on the return, avoid 7-10am Monday. Lots of folks will be on the roads.
In general, INRIX says travel times will probably take about 10% longer, but in larger areas or more popular areas, travel times could increase by as much as 85%. Drive safe!
