Lucy Hale just landed a huge new role in the CW's Riverdale spinoff, Katy Keene.

The 29-year-old actress will play the show's lead in the new show, according to ET Online. Hale confirmed the news by posting a photo of an article confirming the news on Instagram, writing that she was "slightly freaking out!"

"Well I'm slightly freaking out!" she wrote. "Thank you @archiecomics / @writerras / @thecw / @thecw / @warnerbrostv / @thatthingofwhen for trusting me to be your KATY KEENE, my heart is bursting," she captioned the screenshot.

For those unfamiliar with the character, and curious about the show, Katy Keene is said to be set several years after the events that take place on Riverdale. It will follow four 20-somethings from the Archie Comics universe as they pursue their Broadway, modeling and music dreams in New York City, according to ET Online. Hale's character, Katy Keene, is described as an aspiring fashion designer, according to Entertainment Weekly. She reportedly spends her time away from work "navigating friendship and dating in the big city," in the show.

Katy Keene will also star Riverdale actress Ashleigh Murray, who plays Josie McCoy. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced. The CW hasn't yet announced a premiere date for  Katy Keene.

Hale previously starred on Pretty Little Liars and Life Sentence, both of which also aired on the CW. She recently finished working on Fantasy Island, a supernatural comedy horror set in Fiji, which she starred in alongside Michael Pena and Maggie Q.
