It's no surprise we all may feel a bit of 'ADD' in today's world. Heaven knows women have a million things to think about at any given second. But has the term 'ADD' been sort of a catch-all for just an overly busy life?

More people are ADD than ever before

Life IS  busy for most of us. And if you are a woman with kids or grandkids your plate is full. If you're working, that adds a ton, if you have hobbies and interests and a social calendar there is even more.

Certain characteristics plague those of us with diagnosed Attention Deficit Disorder. (I feel like it shouldn't be called that. I don't think it's deficit necessarily, just a way in which our brain works) That said. It is EXHAUSTING for sure!

Those with ADD are overachievers

(Abbreviated from Video)

  • Easily obsessed with someone or something and lose interest In everything else
  • When they achieve something, they feel no sense of accomplishment
  • Minor commitments = no relaxation until it's over (in waiting mode till complete)
  • Strong sense of justice and fairness and react strongly when people do mean things
  • Internalized hyperactivity is in their heads like six squirrels running around at all times
  • Often misdiagnosed with an 'Anxiety disorder'.
  • Listening to a "slow talker" is excruciatingly painful because they've already guessed what will be said in the first 5 seconds.
  • Highly driven and overachieving but chronically overwhelmed.
  • Excited to plan social activities but can't follow through
  • Forget what they're googling

'Overthinking' every social interaction is another sign. I find this information somewhat comforting knowing I'm not the only one that can relate to these things. I find it funny to see humorous videos made about people with ADD. I was diagnosed with ADD and ADHD as a kid, so I have a double whammy! And I see it as a superpower, not a hindrance.

I don't take medication for my ADD, only because I have tried meds prescribed by doctors and found the side effects to be something worse than my ADD. I have learned the skill of keeping my ADD in check  rather than letting it control me. My personal opinion is to stay off medications. But, each person needs to decide what will work for them.

How do I know if I'm ADD?

Sure there are times when I want to sit on the floor and cry because of to many distractions. Technology is extra stressful for us types. But those of us with ADD are said to have been better survivors in history.

We are very keenly aware of our surroundings.  We are the ones that didn't get eaten by a tiger or unsuspecting predator.
