It was nine miles south of Pendleton and James S. Miller was a resident of Pilot Rock, Oregon.

He was going south on 395 near Pilot Rock when he turned on Spring Creek Road right into an oncoming fully-loaded logging truck.

Miller was slammed 200 feet after impact and died at the scene. The logging truck driver was unhurt.

The collision occurred midday on Thursday. The highway was closed for several hours in both directions.
