Benton County Sheriff Warns That “Me Too” Kits Could Hurt Your Criminal Case
I didn't realize this was a thing but the Benton County Sheriff's Department is warning of solicitors marketing a "Me Too Kit" to victims of sexual assault.
The Sheriff's Office gives their warning on why the "Me Too Kits" might not be the best course of action if you've been a victim of sexual assault. They explain the reasons why in a recent Facebook post.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office has learned some private businesses are marketing a “Me Too Kit” to victims of sexual assault. These companies claim victims can “take back control” by collecting their own forensic evidence. Please do not jeopardize your case by using these types of kits. These at-home kits are inadmissible in court. It is critical any victim of sexual assault receive a proper forensic exam by a qualified medical professional. This is to help ensure the victim is aware of any medical problems resulting from the assault as well as for the proper collection of evidence. If you are a victim of sexual assault, please reach out to your local law enforcement agency for assistance.
