Co-Founder Ethos Bakery : Scot Newell Celebration of Life
I was so saddened to see we have lost one of our prominent community members recently. I met Scot Newel back in 1993 I think... It had to have been around then. I was in my early years of singing and performing. Scot was an amazing vocalist, Piano player, and drummer. A musical prodigy. His mom Sharon was also a music lover and If I'm not mistaken was a former music teacher.

I lost touch with Scot for a few years when he began his partnership with Angela and they opened Ethos Bakery Cafe in Richland. Then the past few years, it seemed I'd run into Scot everywhere!
Scot's always energetic and enthusiastic greeting was such a positive and welcomed surprise for me. We always took the time to stop and chat and get caught up on the latest goings on with both of us.
I must have run into Scot five times in the last month alone. At the Farmer's Market, or he'd drop into one of my Solo performances to say hello. I'd see him at Ethos and he'd buy me a coffee and we'd sit and chat. Scot was instrumental in hooking me up with the company I bought my home studio Acoustic Tile. He was helpful like that.
Scot was the Co-Founder of Ethos Bakery Cafe
Scot and I weren't super close friends. We didn't talk often on the phone, but we were always happy to see each other when we did.
And then as much of a surprise it was when we ran into each other, it surprised me that Scot passed away so suddenly, so unexpectedly just like that. Gone!
I can't stop thinking about him and the way people can impact our everyday lives, make a difference, bring something to your day pleasant or needed and then all of a sudden one day they are just no longer there.
It's hard to wrap my head around it. And it's a reminder to let the people In your life know how much you enjoy and appreciate them. I hope Scot knew I felt that way about him.
Scot did amazing things in his life. His life seemed full and complete. I think he was happy. I will miss his presence as I know so many will.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at John Dam Plaza on Sunday, October 13th at 1:30 PM.
Ethosbakerycafe posted this on Instagram and I couldn't agree more...
"Scot was many things: Child music prodigy, political campaigner, traveler, small business owner, car enthusiast, dog-lover, hiker & cyclist and so much more. Scot brought matchless energy, life, drive, and as one person recently said "unapologetic sass" into every aspect of his life. He and Angela met at Barracuda Coffee and created Ethos together in 2011. At every turn, Scot was always the visionary who was pushing for bigger and better things, making every new build his baby until he could hand it off to others to push them to make it shine. Scot had a knack for pushing people to accomplish more and rarely met someone he couldn't strike up a conversation with. Fun fact, he avidly avoided photos and could most frequently be found hiding behind something or someone. there is so much more that we could say, but there are not enough words to convey everything that Scot meant to Ethos as a company, the people within it, and the community at large. Thanks for being our Human"
