Although numerous Hanford workers and supervisors were accused, this is the first person to be found guilty in the major time-card fraud scheme that's been investigated for a number of years.

Former supervisor Daniel Nieibuhr received 30 days in jail, and fined over $34,000 for his role in an extensive time-card fraud scheme that occurred during the time CH2MHill held the Hanford tank farm contract.  CH2MHill was contracted with the Federal Government between 1999 and 2008, the time-card fraud occurred towards the latter part of the contract.

Workers and some supervisors were accused of putting full overtime shifts on their time-cards, even though if they completed the work early and left.  Supervisors were accused of having knowledge of the scheme, but did nothing to stop it.

Neibuhr was the first such person to be found guilty, a number of other workers and employees were acquitted.

CH2MHill had previously agreed in 2013 to pay over $18 million to settle a series of civil and criminal allegations of defrauding taxpayers via the time-card scheme.
