Have you ever opened food at a grocery store and ate it while shopping? You don’t want to do that. You could be arrested.

A man at the Kennewick Grocery Outlet on West Fourth Avenue found out it wasn’t a good idea.

He opened a 50-cent bag of chips, started eating them as he walked around, leaving staff with the impression he wasn’t going to pay for them on Tuesday, according to Kennewick police.

A Kennewick police officer arrived and issued the man a citation for theft, told him he couldn’t return to the store and let him go.

The cost of the citation is definitely more than 50 cents.
