The Origin of the Croissant

The croissant seems to have been created around 1683 when the Turkish Empire was attempting to conquer Vienna, Austria. The Turks were trying to use tunnels to raid the city and tried to dig them under the walls of Vienna. City bakers worked underground and heard the digging, alerting the city to the attempted invasion and eventually leading to victory. In thanks, the bakers received high honors and then baked their bread loaves in the shape of the Ottoman Empire, a crescent moon according to daysoftheyea.com. Today, the croissant is one of the most loved and well-known pastries in the world but where do you really find a good one? Thanks to a new article by Traveling Paris, we now know the best places to get the most delicious croissants in all of Washington State.
