Nearly 1,200 Kennewick educators packed into South Hills Church Friday shortly after noon, to vote and approve a new two-year deal with the Kennewick School District, ending a 3-day strike that had threatened to become perhaps acrimonious.

Just the day before KSD sought an injunction to force the teachers back to class, while the KEA then filed a complaint with the PERC of Washington state.

But the contract was approved late Thursday night, and the vote happened Friday.

According to the Tri-City Herald, KEA officials were extremely "relieved" over the outcome, and the Herald says one teacher they talked to said the salary structure agreed upon was very "competitive" with other area schools.

No specific details have been released yet, but this means school will start Tuesday for Kennewick students, all 19,000 of them.
