KPD Says Booze and Anger Lead to Kennewick Sunday Shooting
A weekend altercation leads to a man getting shot in the leg according to the Kennewick Police Department.
Kennewick Police are reporting that on Sunday, July 19th at 1:00 AM, they were dispatched to an assault with a weapon located at 1107 W. 5th Avenue (Spring Meadow Apartments).
In a press release, here are more details in the case:
Dispatch received a 911 call that a 56-year-old Kennewick resident had been shot in the leg. Officers arrived and began rendering aid to the victim, who was later transported to an area hospital for further treatment. The male victim sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his right leg.
Investigation revealed that the victim was standing outside near the sidewalk along S. Kent Street when he was struck one time by gunfire.
Witness accounts led officers to a nearby apartment unit which was where the alleged suspect was believed to have been firing gunshots from.
The suspect, 61-year-old Joel S. Johnson, was detained without incident. The initial investigation concluded that In a heavily intoxicated state, Johnson negligently discharged a firearm striking the victim in the right leg. Johnson was booked into the Benton County Jail for Assault in the Third Degree, and other charges may be pending upon the completion of the investigation.
Johnson was arrested and is facing several charges including Assault in the Third Degree. You can read more details about the case here.
