The Most Pirated Movie of 2012 Was…
When you think of the possible candidates for "Most Pirated Movie of 2012: (a dubious honor, to be sure), a few titles instantly spring to mind: 'The Avengers', 'The Dark Knight Rises', 'The Amazing Spider-Man', to name a few. But oddly enough, none of those major blockbusters top the list. No, the film that was pirated the most is one that, at this stage of the year, is something of an afterthought.
Find out what it is after the break.
'Project X', the found footage party movie released in March, is the surprising entry in Torrent Freak's most shared movies of 2012 list. The Todd Phillips-produced comedy was evidently downloaded at least 9 million times on Bit Torrent, which puts it ahead of blockbusters like 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol', 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'The Avengers'. The site notes it's interesting since 'Project X' made only $100 million worldwide.
We're thinking it doesn't have the "event movie" appeal of those other titles, which were certainly made to be seen on the big screen, making it an ideal film for viewing at home. (Hopefully it didn't plant too many bad ideas in the heads of all the home-alone teens out there.)
