On March 18th, at 6 pm, troopers received many complaints about a white mustang traveling erratically on eastbound I-84 near milepost 35.

At milepost 51 a Hood River County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to stop the driver of the mustang. The driver refused to pull over, and a pursuit began. The driving behavior of the mustang deteriorated even more, so the deputy ended the pursuit near milepost 60.

The driver managed to avoid two stop-stick deployments in the dangerous pursuit. The mustang then exited on 82 into the Dalles, and turned around on the off-ramp. The driver continued to traveling the wrong-way on the off-ramp toward the eastbound lanes of I-84.

Sergeant Calloway made the decision to stop the mustang by intentionally colliding with the vehicle.

Sergeant Calloway suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was treated and released from a local hospital. Meanwhile, the suspect was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The decision made by Sergeant Calloway prevented what could have been deadly for motorists traveling I-84 that day.

Calloway's crash into the mustang stopped possible future collisions that may have occurred if the driver continued onto the highway in the wrong direction.
