Have your pets been hunkering down a bit more? Maybe they seem like they don't have the usual energy they had last month.

Your pets appetite can be affected by the colder weather.

While wildlife like bears are on a "Feeding Frenzy" preparing for hibernation, our domestic furry friends are a little lazier and a bit less hungry.

Do you find it hard to walk your dog in cold weather?

Most people find it difficult to get outside to walk their dogs when the cold weather hits which could play a part in decreased appetites and less energy, especially for dogs.

Most pet owners say their dogs show significant differences during the darker colder days.

Your pet may even seem a bit depressed. It's important to keep dogs as active in winter as you do in other seasons.

I find my dogs are ready to hit their cozy beds as soon as it's dark outside. So I believe the light has a definite impact on them.

I sure can't argue with how cute dogs look in their little jackets and coasts though.

Make sure you don't over-heat your dogs with heavy coats

Dogs sweat through their panting and their bodies heat up quite quickly since they don't sweat through their bodies.

If you put a coat on your dog, make sure you aren't overheating your dog with a coat that is too heavy or stays on too long.

What about cats? How are they affected by weather?

Not surprisingly, cats are also affected by weather but possibly opposite from dogs. Cats tend to have more energy in the winter but like to snooze more In the warmer months.

Whatever the season, make sure your pets have plenty of fresh water to drink. Ample food and a place to keep warm and also get out of the heat.
