I'm headed to one of my favorite places this weekend, and I'd love to say it holds the record for the highest-elevated town in Washington State, but there are a few reasons why it can't claim that title.

This Tiny Eastern Washington Town Sits Higher Than Any Other in the State

Anatone Washington is 3573 feet above sea level, and if it were incorporated, it would be the champ in elevation in the Evergreen State.

Your first thought is that the westside has the highest elevated towns, but one small town in Eastern Washington is the elevation champion.

Waterville holds the distinction of being the highest incorporated city or town in Washington state, sitting at 2,625 feet above sea level on the Waterville Plateau.

Now, before you jump all over me, although Waterville is the highest incorporated town, it is not the highest-elevated community in Washington.

There are several unincorporated mountain communities, such as Mazama and Trout Lake, as well, that are located at similar or higher elevations, but because they are not incorporated municipalities, Waterville retains the official title.

So, talk about a pleasant surprise to discover that while I'm going to Anatone this weekend, which is pretty high in elevation, Waterville, Washington, in Eastern Washington, is the reigning elevation champion.
