The Classic Horror Movie "The Shining" Was Filmed Near Mount Hood Oregon
One of the most classic horror movies was filmed a few hours away from Tri-Cities Washington. The Shining by Stephen King is a famous book and movie from 1980 that starred Jack Nicholson and always piques everyone's interest in the horror genre.
"Red Rum" scared the crap out of me as a kid but as an adult, I love the fact that you can visit the famous hotel in Oregon.
You might be familiar with the Timberline Lodge near Mt. Hood, it's a classic hotel built in 1937, that's on the historical landmark list, but besides that rich history, the Timberline Lodge has a legacy of being one of the locations where the Shining was filmed.
If you want to stay at the lodge, you'll want to book room 217 especially if you are a horror fan.
Room 217 appears in the original novel but as a request from the hotel owners for use of the hotel, they asked that the room in the movie be changed to 237.
So if you are planning a road trip and want a little adventure, the Timberline Lodge is one of those locations worth checking out. You'll want to book room 217 but if things go bump in the night, that's all on you.
