Walla Walla Sets Date for Middle School Hybrid Return

The county may have been 'victim' to unreasonable levels of case counts set by the Department of Health, but some good news for Walla Walla middle school students.

Tuesday evening, the board voted to return the students February 16th. According to the District:

"A steady decline in local COVID cases over the past six weeks according to data provided by the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health allowed the district to shift to the yellow stage of its reopening plan. Sixth grade students will be on campuses first, beginning Feb. 16, with 7th and 8th grade students returning Thursday, Feb. 18."

The District plans a third party inspection-audit to ensure safety protocols are in place; much like Kennewick did prior to returning it's middle and high schoolers as well.

They will be using a AM/PM hybrid model.

Despite it's smaller county population, Walla Walla was faced with some steep requirements for educational return, as have a few other counties in similar situations.
