Washington Asian Giant Hornet Captured in Hope to Find Nest!

It never occurred to me that you could track bees like you track large animals but apparently you can! 

I'd love to know how they wrap the little radio receivers around their necks.

The good news is that the State of Washington was able to capture an Asian giant hornet and tag them in hopes that the hornet will lead investigators to their nest.

Here are details of the tracking mission according to the Department Of Agriculture:

UPDATE: Yesterday our team was able to capture a live #AsianGiantHornet east of Blaine and they got another one this morning. Both hornets were tagged, given a pre-flight strawberry jam meal, and released.
After staying in the area for a couple of hours, the hornets took off. Our team has been tracking them this afternoon but has not yet located a nest. The radio tags will run for up to two weeks, and we will continue to search the area in an attempt to locate the nest.

The trackers are only good for two weeks so hopefully the state will find the nest in that time.

Every time I read these stories of Asian giant hornets I just imagine what it would be like to wrangle one of these bad boys. I'm sure it sounds way more exciting than it really is.
