Will Positive COVID Test Affect Hybrid Learning in Kennewick?

A student at Highlands Middle School in Kennewick earlier this week was reported to have tested positive for COVID-19, leaving some parents to wonder if this will affect hybrid learning.

Next Monday, Oct. 12, more IEP (individualized lesson plan) and special education students will return to the schools in the District, followed by K-5 Oct. 19 and finally Middle and High School students Nov. 2

According to YakTriNews.com,  the District issued a statement indicating when they receive a report of a case for a student or staff member, they work with the Benton Franklin Health District to determine any close contacts. The District also said they notify all the school staff and parents of children who attend that school. The statement also referred to them following all the cleaning and sanitizing protocols required for schools.  It contained a link to the school district website detailing these procedures.

The school did not close after the test. It is not known when the student took the test, or how much time they have spent at the school itself before taking the test.  The student has been a part of an ongoing in learning program for certain students.
