In this Black History Month Moment, I would love to take a few minutes to recognize and give a huge shout out, skee wee, ee-i-kee, ee-yip, and do a Zeta stroll in honor of the four Divine Nine sororities!

FAMOUS “DIVINE NINE” SORORITY AND FRATERNITY MEMBERS

Historically Black Sororities and Fraternities in America were founded in a span of 57 years (1906-1963) during harsh times of racial inequities with “the goal to uplift and educate Black Americans attending colleges and universities.” (Source: yesprep.org.) Memberships in these Greek groups are exclusive and selective. Members can often be found volunteering in their communities, participating in Step Shows, and various forms of public service.

One of my great-aunts is still an Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) and one of my deceased great-aunts was a Zeta. My grandparents met when they were college students at TSU, a historically Black college/university (HBCU) in Nashville, TN.
