A Benton County boater escaped serious injury, but was still transported to an area hospital for observation after their boat slammed into the Columbia River Shoreline near Finley Wednesday.

Deputies got the call about the accident, which occurred near Lechelt Road. With assistance from the Pasco Fire Dept emergency vessel, the boater and their craft were retrieved from the shoreline.

Officials didn't say how fast the person was traveling, but due to foggy conditions, they slammed into the shoreline hard enough to be hurt. No word on what shape the boat is in.

Deputies caution people against putting out in conditions where visibility is virtually zero. As you can see from the BCSO image, you can't even see the water although the Deputy was standing only a short distance away.
