Michael Berryman Says Nuclear Radiation Caused His Strange Appearance [INTERVIEW]
This morning we had the pleasure of interviewing horror film super star Michael Berryman. His strange appearance won him many roles as monsters, villains and lunatics. It's because he has no eyebrows, teeth or fingernails plus a strangely-shaped head due to Ectodermal Dysplasia.
Berryman believes it's because his father was exposed to high amounts of radiation in 1947 when assigned to Hiroshima by the Navy. His father was a neurosurgeon and upon return from his assignment he sired Berryman "while still glowing" from the radiation.
Berryman required brain surgery at a young age to give his cranium room for his growing brain. He endured bullying as a child, but so did kids with polio, he said. It was a parenting problem.
He majored in Art History and co-owned a business when he was discovered by famed director George Pal. That relationship soon led to a role in the legendary movie, "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest." The craft of acting fascinated him. "I was a sponge," he said.
You may have also seen him in Wes Craven's "The Hills Have Eyes," "Weird Science," "Star Trek IV," "Star Trek V," "Spy Hard," "The Devil's Rejects" and more.
