TC Americans Make BIG Goaltending Change, Boyko to Kelowna
In a bit of stunning news to many Am's fans, the familiar giant in goal will not be there when the team plays Portland at the Toyota Center Saturday Nov. 13th.
BOYKO HEADED TO KELOWNA
In a move announced this week by Governor/GM Bob Tory, 19-year-old Talyn Boyko has been traded straight across to the Kelowna Rockets for 19-year-old Cole Tisdale and a 3rd round WHL bantam draft pick in 2024.
According to the Americans, Tisdale's stats are as follows:
(Tisdale) "was originally selected 157th overall by the Rockets in the 2017 WHL Prospects Draft. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound goaltender holds a 5-1-1-1 record, 3.14 goals-against average, and .888 save percentage through 12 games played with the Rockets."
Boyko, considered the latest in a long line of very successful Americans netminders, was a 4th round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2021 NHL Draft.
However, he has struggled a bit in net. His career Americans stats:
(ad) "15-31-2-2 record, 4.26 goals-against average, and .888 save percentage through 56 games played with the Americans." (Tri CIty Americans)
However, some of that can be attributed to the defense around him. This year the Am's are one of the youngest teams in the entire WHL, and also suffered through an injury-plagued and tumultuous "COVID" season that saw them go 7-12 with him in goal for the majority of the games.
No specific were given as to why the Americans made the trade. Tisdale is expected to be in net this weekend for games Fri and Sat.
The move will leave Tisdale as clearly the most experience leader ahead of two very young first-year WHL players, Tomas Suchanek and Nick Avakyan.
