WA State Fire Marshal’s Tips for Halloween Safety [VIDEO]
Halloween is still going on this year, of course, with some modifications, due to Covid-19. The WA State Fire Marshal's Office is reminding us to be safe with our decorations.
The following are some recommendations to keep yourself and others safe this Halloween.
Make sure all smoke alarms in your home are working. Make sure all exits around the home are open and clear of any decorations. All escape routes should remain clear.
Battery-operated candles, flashlights should be used when out and about. Also, use glow-sticks inside your pumpkins.
When using real candles, place your lit pumpkins away from trick-or-treaters and away from anything flammable.
It's also a good idea to show kids how to stop, drop, and roll if their costume catches fire. It's a safety technique for them to practice, stopping immediately, then, dropping to the ground, using their hands to cover their face, and rolling over and over to put flames out.
You can read more about the Center for Disease Control Prevention (CDC) Halloween guidelines here.
We hope you'll join us for Flick or Treat on October 31st.
