Yakima Man Aspires to Sing on The Voice
If you dream of it and you really want to go for it, why wait?
That's the attitude Yakima native Brian Jones has always adopted but Covid-19 has brought a whole new perspective to that question.
Back in 2018, Brian Jones chose to fly down to San Fransisco and try out for the popular television show The Voice. He practiced and made the mistake many do. He chose a Whitney Houston jam and let's just say the rest was history. No callback but that hasn't stopped him from singing or wanting to try again.
Tomorrow at 11:30 am Brian Jones is taking another swing at singing fame with a zoom try-out for The Voice. He's got a new song choice and also a brand new attitude.
Covid hasn't been easy and really made me think that if I have something I want to do, why wait? We don't know how long we're going to be here so instead of putting it off until tomorrow, I want to handle it today and I'm excited to give it another go!
I asked if he had any tips for those wanting to go down the same path and here's what he had to say
Tricks of the Trade from Brian Jones
- Stay away from singing Whitney, Adele, or At Last by Etta James. They are great songs to get you motivated or for a warm-up but too many people go for those songs and you never want to have the five people before you singing the same song.
- Have a backup song ready to go just in case
- Get yourself a singing coach (or grab a friend whose vocal) so you can work on stage presence and feeling comfortable in front of someone
- Don't wait. If you really want to do something, go for it. You never know what could happen
Brian, we wish you loads of luck and hopefully, we will be talking to you AFTER your debut on The Voice! Below is the interview that took place this morning in the studio and also make sure to stay tuned for more exciting things to come from Brian!
