The speed of sound is 770 mph and I think one driver outside of Hanford thought they could break that limit...but alas it wasn't meant to be as a Benton County Sherrif's Deputy put the brakes on this grand experiment.

The driver seems to have been trying to break the sound barrier (unknown to him, Chuck Yeager broke it a million years ago) and then the unexpected happened, he got busted by the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

I'm not sure what the driver was thinking, those of us who know the area knows that the police are usually sitting right there before you come into Richland but it looks like he got busted.

According to a post on the Benton County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the speeder was caught doing 132 MPH!

He was charged with reckless driving and his ride was towed - here is what the Police wrote about the incident:

Deputies working the Hanford site stopped the pictured vehicle for reckless driving as it was clocked on a Laser Speed Measuring Device (commonly called a LIDAR) at 132 MPH in a 60 MPH zone. The driver was arrested (cited & released) and his vehicle was impounded.

Well, he didn't break the sound barrier but he did get a hefty ticket and some impound fees, hope it was worth it for him.
